Elderly Computer Users – Jargon Buster #4 -What is a Home Page and How Do I Change It?

by

The home or default page is the web page which automatically opens when you launch your web browser.  Most browsers are setup to automatically launch on a search engine page.  For instance, Internet Explore automatically displays MSN.Com; whereas, Chrome displays Google.Com.

If you launch Internet Explorer you’ll see a page similar to this:

If you want another page, such as ebay, to display when you open your browser, it is easy to do!

How Can You change your home Page?

The easiest way to change your home page is to first navigate to the page you want to display and then in the browser’s settings section, change the homepage to the currently displayed page.  Here are the specific steps for each browser

Internet Explorer

To change the home page within Internet Explorer first navigate to the page you want to display.  In this example I went to ebay.com.    Below are the exact steps:

Conclusion

There are many browsers available for your use.  I’ve just shown you how to change the home page in two popular browsers.  If you use another browser chances are the steps are generally the same as above:

1.  Navigate to the page you wish to make your default or home page.

2.  Select your browser’s tools or settings page.

3.  Look of the default or home page settings and elect to use the current page as your choice.
